This morning we released the Skepta x Nike Air Max 97 Ultra.
Inspired by the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh in Morocco, it was only through Skepta's eyes that he saw the connection between there and his hometown of London.
It was the cuffed sportswear, the romantic melting pot of culture and western fashion desires, and the rawness of the Marrakesh everyday hustle that inspired and informed the design of Skepta's contribution to the forward thinking silhouette of the Air Max 97.
Skepta previously collaborated with Nike on the highly coveted 'Blacklisted' Air Max BW, another iconic silhouette in the London and Europe street scene.
Skepta's decision to collaborate with Nike could not be more appropriate as Skepta's contribution to the grime scene has been as impacting as Nike's contribution to the UK underground scene.
During his visit in Marrakesh, Skepta's vision and understanding of how Moroccan culture influenced his contribution to Nike could not have been better summed up with this quote from Skepta:
“I had the idea to mix that royal touch to tracksuits, which we don’t feel entitled to anything in. Introducing embroidery to the streets, make people feel good, make people feel entitled, make people feel royal.”
Featuring a patina copper holographic colour blocking, breathable mesh, embroided pull tabs and a black midsole, it expresses the raw hustle of London streets that Skepta is all too familiar with yet draws and makes connection from the very same hustle and desires of Marrakesh.
Released as an Ultra, expect a lightweight stride and stylish sleek slihouette useful for your own everyday hustle.
It's an Air Max 97 with a story to tell, and an identity of two worlds to offer.
